I’m not a maximalist, but...

White, black, and grey…in every tone…are my favorite colors. Give me a neutral shade any day and I’ll be the first to laud the beauty of tone on tone color layering. But recently, I’ve found more and more (is more, more?!) inspiration from designers embracing the color and clash of patterns and objects. With proper curation and design, maximalist spaces can win the race in showcasing high personality spaces.

I’m not a maximalist, but these designers may convert me:

1.Sasha Bikoff

Sasha’s designs live out loud. Miami Vice meets Italian Baroque meets Pop Art.

2. Sig Bergamin

It was love at first sight when I came across AD’s feature of Sid’s house in Brazil. He employs layers of pattern in various materials and demonstrates incredible line work throughout the space.

3. Studio Shamshiri

Studio Shamshiri manages to bring a well-composed maximalist vibe without losing the California chill. Brilliant.

4. Kelly Wearstler

Kelly is a maximalist queen. Enough said.

5. Michelle Nussbaumer

An exceptional belle of the ball in pursuit of Southern maximalist charm. I love Michelle’s unapologetic love of grandeur and rich, royal color palette.
