5 Things We Learned... Thielly Malabarba Ferreira

THIELLY MALABARBA FERREIRA, VP DESIGN AT UNIBAIL-RODAMCO-WESTFIELD

NEW YORK, NY

Thielly Malabarba Ferreira is an innovative Design Director design, architectural, and creative management across a variety of fields, including retail, hospitality, residential, and aviation. Before taking up a leadership role at global powerhouse Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, she led design projects for Tiffany & Co. in Europe and Asia, including the launch of the brand’s multimillion‐dollar flagships in Moscow, Hong Kong, Rome, and Geneva. Thielly is one of the hardest working people I know and brings a unique passion and creativity to large-scale, complex projects. Currently, she’s leading the Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s retail design portfolio for all centers and airports, enhancing shopping and travel experiences across the country. And let’s face it, post-pandemic, we’re going to need her drive and expertise more than ever.

Here are 5 Things We Learned about Thielly.

What made you...you?

When I turned 20, life as I knew it turned upside down when my parents were part of a horrendous accident. That event exposed me to a reality I had not been prepared for. It required me to step outside of my comfort zone, confront my deepest fears, and assume a new level of independence.

As years went by I learned how to take charge over the most difficult situations, never losing focus and most importantly, accepting that some things are out of my control… and that’s ok, I will have a glass of wine and live it through.

When are you happiest?

That moment when strategy, collaboration, and creativity converge to materialize from an idea, a vision, to physical creation. The sense of accomplishment when I see that my work is positively affecting someone’s experience. When I am at the beach and lastly, in Brazil, (having) Saturday night’s pizza.

Would you rather have a muse or be a muse?

I need the balance of both. I need a muse, an inspiration, a mentor … that intriguing personality that triggers my curiosity and provokes new interests. I also need to know I am inspiring people, that my contribution to my family, friends, and to the business is of value.

Who do you admire?

I most admire people that have mastered the art of change. Malleable souls that adapt to any circumstance and find continual ways to happiness and success.

What is important?

To find happiness and amusement in small things. Confidence and integrity.
